The QS world university rankings, released this week, says that that the UK’s Cambridge University has ousted Harvard as the world’s best university for the first time in seven years.

However, according to the report, American institutions continue to dominate the list, taking 31 of the top 100 places.

Interestingly the rankings have been released just days after Forbes published its own rankings of the US schools most likely to make you rich. According to the magazine the list goes beyond just ranking schools where graduates make the most money, and instead involves a detailed methodology in order to rank the institutions; with Williams College, Massachusetts hitting the top spot.

“We're interested in schools that raise their students above salary expectations,” say Forbes – and as such – the colleges on this list are those capable of taking a group of students that, statistically speaking, shouldn't go on to earn much, but who have beaten the odds and made big bucks.

The methodology calculates salary expectations of graduates and compares that to actual earnings of alumni; those schools that do the best job to raise students above expectations rank higher.

Interestingly, Forbes’s America’s Best Colleges 2010 list, released last month, highlights significant differences between those universities most likely to make you rich and those institutions of higher education that rank as “the best”.

As schools and colleges get back to business this week, the findings of both reports continue to help future leaders understand where they can best learn.

And there is more on the MeetTheBoss.tv, including a look at the Evolution of the Executive, from Ford to Zuckerberg; why the back-to-school season is one of the biggest events for the US retail industry; and why one of the “Most Powerful Woman in Television” Anne Sweeney, Co-Chair, Disney Media Networks believes future leaders shouldn’t put barriers in front of themselves.
